Nic and I ventured up the west coast and stayed in a bunglow in St Pierre.  The weather was warm but for the first day or so there was a lot of rain. We went to the local markets, had Creole lunch at 10am (while others were having rhum) and then had fresh coconut juice straight out of the coconut.

We then headed further north to check out a beach and gave a lift to a local guy, Manu, who walked us through what was like a rain forrest to get to the beach.  There were a few surfers and boogy boarders and a couple of people who weren't really swimming deep.  So both Nic and I went in for our first dip in the Carribean Sea.  We only went up to our thighs as the current felt pretty strong and the waves were breaking a bit further out.

As we sat there a lady went in for a swim and in no time started to get dragged along the coast to the rocks in front of where we were sitting Fresh coconut juice

.  It was hard to watch as we were wondering if she was ok.  Her husband went down to the shore to see if she was ok but by this stage she was getting dragged further out and down the coast, while getting dumped by the waves.  Nic ran up and asked some surfers to come and help her and by this time the lady had disappeared further down the coast.

Luckily the sea brought her back in and we later found out it was the day of her birthday.  Aparently it can be very dangerous in that water and people drown there every year.  Very silly woman to swim in a sea that you are not familiar with.  Both Nic and I just felt so helpless, but luckily she was ok.
