Day 109 - back in our 2nd home
Jun 14, 2013
Today we had some things we needed to do, the most important thing was sending another heap of clothes, presents and random things back home. After a late start we walked up the road to buy a box, some tape, some bubble wrap and paper to box up all our things to send in the post. We got everything we needed except for plain paper to wrap around the outside of the box. A quick walk up to the post office and we found the plain yellow paper we needed. We then headed back to the hotel and packed everything into the box, taped it up nice and tight and wrapped in yellow paper. Then we walked the package up to the post office. We were both a little worried we would not have much luck sending the package, the box was huge and weighed a fair bit, as well as that all the other mex post depots around the country have to go through all your items before you pack and send, we were just going off the packages we sent in Mexico City in large envelopes where we just wrote down a list of things inside the package, also we had a lot of glass things in the box that you can't send. Upon arriving at the post office we got in the stamp line, that lady sent us to another line, then we got to the front of that line nervously I gave the package to the lady and told her I need to send it to Australia. She asked what was in the box to which I handed her a list of things I had written down in Spanish not including the glass things, she weighed the box that was 8kg, she told us the price and gave us a black marker to write the addresses on, I had to make a mad run up to an ATM to get more money where I waited behind an old lady who took 10 minutes at the ATM, putting her card in and out 5 times, it was so frustrating! Once the old bag got out of my way I got my money within 30 seconds and sprinted back down the road, by the time I got back Bobbie had finished filling out the forms, I paid the money and got the receipt and the package is hopefully on its way, no need to worry at all, I think the lady had to look at our stuff but once she saw how well we had packed everything in the box she just let us send it, there were other people there having their things inspected. Afterwards we did a bit of walking around the city, although we spent a month here previously, we had not seen it all so we tried to walk in areas we had not been. We headed up into a street we had not been to where they had some street markets, I got a sweet pair of braces. On the walk back we looked in some shops and then headed along another street that was almost a main mall street that runs right to the zocalo, we could not believe we didn't come along this street in our month here, it's only up the road from our hotel and has all the good clothing shops on it. Along the way Bobbie looked in a few shops, we went right to the zocalo, which was blocked off and the markets were not there. After a short walk in the zocalo area we headed back to the hotel. We chilled for a while in the afternoon, resting and using the internet to book hotels and research things we will do in the USA. Booking hotels and organizing the next stages of the holiday actually takes up a lot of time, especially if the wifi isn't very good. After a while we headed out for dinner, we went to a Chinese buffet we had found that looked really good on our walk today. The food looked good too, but looks can be deceiving, it wasn't that great, we still had fair bit of food. We had to walk home in the rain, for the rest of the night we watched movies and did more holiday research.
