This is the last leg of my Australian tour, ten days of East Coast adventure: I'm planning to visit the Whitsunday Islands for a bit of sailing, and also do a self drive tour across Fraser Island (the world's largest sand island).
I flew into Brisbane this morning direct from Darwin ($151 from VirginBlue). Unfortunately I did not get any sleep on board and I felt (and probably looked) a little like a zombie as I caught the train from the airport ($11) and then made my way across town. Shedding a few kgs from my backpack in Darwin has made the world of difference, I can now walk with all my gear quite comfortably again.
The last week spent in Darwin was very relaxing, and probably because of the heat and humidity I did not feel like doing a lot each day. On our last day together Team Sheila: Jorgen, Adrian, Emily (sometimes referred to as 'The Bridge' during games of Settlers) and I went for a picnic just out of town. We caught the free shopping centre bus, seeing as Sheila has now been sold to another backpacker who is driving her back down to Perth the same route that we came up!
For those of you who are interested (Emily) the temperature here in Brisbane at the moment is a lot more comfortable than Darwin (not as hot or humid). I'm looking forward to being able to sleep without needing air conditioning or a fan on all night.
