Diving again
Entry 47 of 198 | show all | print this entry |
I arrived here a few days ago and have been out diving everyday! Yesterday I completed my Advanced Open Water PADI Course and decided to stay an extra couple of days to log a few fun dives before I leave this island. Tomorrow afternoon (after a couple more dives of course) I shall be on a boat and overnight VIP bus to Bangkok (600B). It would be so tempting to stay here longer as conditions for diving are ideal at the moment. Visibility is as high as 25 metres and the water temperature is a constant 29 degress Celcius.
The course here was pretty similar in price to the courses offered in Perhentians, Malaysia. There are many diving schools on Koh Toa and they all seem to fix their prices to match each others. I went with Asia Divers and the two day course cost 6000B. Accommadation was 300B a night (150B if you share a twin room) and they were far better value for money than places I stayed in Perhentian Kecil.
For my advanced course I opted for a Multi-Level/Naturalist dive; Peak Performance Bouyancy Dive and Night Dive (which I highly recommeded). Diving at night with a torch light was sheer exhilaration - I felt like I was in space! The other two core dives were straight forward; a deep dive to 30 metres and a navigation dive. To be honest I was a little dissapointed that I did not feel any Nitrogen Narcosis effects on the deep dive. In fact no one in the group did.
By the time I send my next entry I will have swapped this paradise island for the smells and grime of Bangkok - I must be mad!
