Climbing Mount Kinabalu - Day 3
Entry 32 of 198 | show all | print this entry |

After two nights spent at the base camp and organising a guide and group to go up the mountain with us, it was finally time to set off and climb the tallest mountain in South East Asia. Just to put things into perspective, we would be climbing to the same height that people normally jump out of aeroplanes for skydives!
Three and a half hours of climbing later I made it to the midway point where we would be spending the night. Fortunately the accommodation here at the hostel was just as good as at the base camp, and now that we were much higher the heaters and warm showers were very welcome. I say spending the night but in actual fact we would all be getting up for a 2am start, so that we could reach the summit for a 6am sunrise.
Top Tip: When booking your Mount Kinabalu climb make sure you book a bed in the hostel. It may be more expensive than the huts but it is worth it just to feel warm when you are trying to get some sleep before the summit climb. More thumbnails ...
