After a strange bus journey from Georgetown that took us way past our destination, the bus driver drove us back to the depot and told us to get on another bus back to where we actually wanted to go - the Kek Lok Si temple.

Eventually arriving at our destination it was an up hill walk past the masses of tacky stalls that line the steps all the way up to the temple. Most of the vendors sold exactly the same items giving little incentive for the average tourist to spend time looking around.

The temple itself was very impressive, especially with the green hills as a back drop. Following a lengthy tour of the grounds it was onto Penang Hill for a view of Georgetown. To ascend this hill we had to ride a funicular (a first for me) which was quite novel although packed with people.

The view from the top of the hill was impressive, although choosing to watch the city lights of Georgetown come on meant missing the sunset on the other side of the hill. It's always good to leave something for next time.
