Arrived in Penang a couple of hours ago and its back to the heat up here, though not as hot as KL. I travelled up here from the Cameron Highlands on a six hour bus journey that seemed to be a little easier going than the journey to CH from KL. Having said that a fellow traveller from Canada (Elizabeth) was throwing up on the bus.

When you buy tickets (or anything) in South East Asia it never ceases to amaze me how the same thing can vary in price depending on where you buy it. My bus ticket was RM22 but you can get the same ticket for RM18.10 if you buy it direct from the bus station. I have heard of people in Thailand paying double for tours/tickets when not buying from the company/station directly.

Penang is the first island that I have visited in Malaysia, and it is vast. Here in the middle of Chinatown there is no way of telling that this is not on the mainland anymore. The huge bridge coming over from Butterworth is very impressive, I heard that it was the largest bridge in South East Asia.

I'm still recovering from my jungle trek with Phil yesterday, so I may have to take things a little easy over the next couple of days. Fortunately first impressions of Penang seem to indicate that this is an ideal place to do just that.
