No trip to KL is complete without a trip up the Menara Kuala Lumpur. Although it's only the fourth highest telecoms tower in the world, it stands on a forest that is already 90 metres above the rest of the city; so when you are at the top it seems a lot higher. Comparing towers, although the CN Tower in Toronto is the tallest (according to info at Menara Kuala Lumpur) the experience you get at Menara Kuala Lumpur is a better one. I went up the CN Tower in 2001 and it was impressive but there was not the same attention to aesthetics in construction. The detail in Menara Kuala Lumpur's architecture is superb, and the petal design compliments the protected forrest from which it rises.

Once you are on the observation deck you are allowed to stay as long as you like, so the best time to go is a little before sunset so you can see the KL skyline by day and night. If you plan to take photos at night it's a little hit and miss due to background reflection. The entry charge has gone up to RM15 but this now includes the audio tour (average) and free use of the stationary binoculars (excellent range). Don't forget to see the video presentation in the theatre to see how they built the tower, quite fascinating.

There is a revolving restaurant above the observation deck. If you fancy having a meal there you have to book before visiting the tower.
