Where I stayed
Did I finally snap when I saw the mile markers out the bus window! 2100 KM mile marker. It canīt be...but yes, it is 2100 KM to the end! Hwy 40! That convers to about 1200 MILES! On a bus?
The weather had shifted in San Martin, rain came during the night...boo hoo. It wasnīt bad, just not like the beautiful fall days that we had been having. So, as we progressed south, the weather became worse; the wind REALLY did pick up, but the temp wasnīt too bad. At least I didnīt have to dig in and get the green coat out. I talked to a backpacker at the bus station here, and she recommended this hostel. the Tango Inn. Well, the price is right! 30 pesos, and if you stay 3 nights, you get the 4th free! Says alot about the number of people traveling here right now! Like me...I am about 1 month too late. It was that side trip to Puno that threw my schedule off! Or all the wine I was drinking with Debbie! Well, anyway, one comment here about the hostel. They should have a requirement that the people working in the hostel be an ex-trekker! They are kinda snooty here, like...
I quickly changed my mind about the ferry this morning-wind howled last night, heaters are going full blast here, rain. But then, I picked up a bus schedule: the block descriptor on hwy 40 (which is shown dotted, by the way, on the map) going to El Calafate says: 2-3 DAYS! And the price is about 140$, so I am back to the ferry. I can get it for 300$, and at least I have a friggin bed. So, I have an email in to the ferry people again. I still have a few days.
I will probably update this later. But...fotos...scant. Itīs just too late in the year! But in 6 weeks, I will be in Spain in the SPRING! And in 3 weeks, I will be in Co., also SPRING!
Yes, if you stay in HI, they have discounts on some of the bus companies, you have to be saavy, and ask for the voucher in the HI hostel, then get your $ back in Retiro, in BsAs. Oh well.
