Ah Paris! First thing out of the gate... what else would we do but go straight to the Rodeo Drive of Europe, Champs-Elysees. When we arrived you would have sworn that all of Portugal had driven to Paris and was driving down this road, honking their horns, waving flags, hanging out of cars and numerous other things that really just has to be seen. It was like this for more than an hour. Portugal had won their World Cup match.
After dinner, we found that France had also won their match up... so they had a massive spontaneous parade down the same street and once again, the entire city was all horns and shouting.
After a short visit to the Eiffel Tower at night, we went to the Metro and prepared to go back to the hotel. By the way, should you ever want to be crammed into a subway car with 5000 of your favorite hot and sweaty French men and women, somewhat like those t-shirts that you can buy which are shrink wrapped into a tight little ball (I'm thinking specifically of the Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory restaurants)... simple proceed to your nearest Paris Metro station around midnight following a French football (soccer) victory and join in on the party! Its quite an experience!
