Last night we made our way from Cardiff back into England to our next destination, Bristol. Before going to the hotel, we made the back country trek to Stonehenge.
Directions... Drive way out into the country, when you think you're close, turn left and keep going. When you smell cow manuer, you're close, turn right.
I wish you could see this... It is literally in the middle of a field right off the highway (2 lane road). You can see the whole thing from the road, so why pay $12 each to walk around and only get as close as 50 feet.
I gotta say, we're a little dissapointed, after all you hear about the place and this is it?! I don't know what I was expecting, but it definitely isn't larger than life.
We had read about another stone monument somewhere close that was supposed to be bigger and better... and free, Stone Circle at Avebury.
This was very cool. Its basically large stones placed in a 1/2 mile wide circle. You get to walk through the fields, touch the stones, and chase the farm animals! Everytime we see sheep or cows while driving, she wants to stop and take a picture, so I expected that she would be excited, but she was actually scared of the sheep! No they don't bite!
The only downside of the fields, dodging the poop.
Today, we go to Bath.
