Vienna is a great city. Easy to get around with the subway and so far very friendly. We exhausted ourselves yesterday, focusing on the Royal family and their palaces. The winter home and summer home. Really quite amazing.
There was an entire museum dedicated only to their dining collections from the 1600s on. See some of the pictures. The collections are quite extensive.
Next, the life of Empress Elizabeth. A very interesting woman... went crazy though in the end.
Then the apartments of the Emperor and Empress. (sorry no pictures allowed).
After a quick lunch we headed to the summer home, a very large palace/estate.
Again, amazing. The best room was the main ballroom/banquet hall. 300 feet long with domed and painted ceilings and richly decorated.
Outside were extensive gardens.
Oh yes, and then the impressive St. Stephan's Cathedral.
Its actually dificult to convey what we saw here, but it was very interesting. The pictures will give you a better idea.
Tomorrow we will take a side trip to Bratislava, Slovakia. We wanted to go to Budapest, but the train schedule wasn't working out right.
