Watch out for gypsy taxi drivers trying to offer you a rides to your destination. Very expensive! The bus left at 920am. The ride was suppose to be about 4 hours but took about 5.5 hours because we kept stopping at multiple stops within each town to pick up Ticoīs and take them across town. The landscape though is amazing! At one point it looked like we drove into a cloud. It wasnīt quite like fog that I am use to.
Anyways got to La Fortuna eventually. Immediately off the bus we were hounded by people trying to sell us on their hotel or hostel or whatever. We were warned both by Lonely Planet as well as a few people that these guys are scammers and you will not always get what you bargain for. We said thank you but no thank you politely to them and moved on to find a cheap hostel. About 2 blocks from the bus station was Gringo Petes. A purple house. We got a private room with private bathroom for $12 USD/night plus a $10 deposit that I assume we get back when we leave. Pretty basic rooms but they are clean. It is very hot and muggy here! UGH!
Anyways, going to find a soda (restaurant) and grab a casado (classic Costa Rican dish). Meat of your choice, with rice, beans, salad, and fried banana. Super tasty!
Take it easy!
