So back to Milan - we had a short stopover, and then it was back on another train to Zurich. Another very comfortable first class train. The scenery was nothing short of amazing - there are no words to describe how utterly beautiful the landscape was. You will just have to look at the photos!!
We arrived in Zurich mid afternoon, and after Jase having an argument with a tram ticket machine (the most confusing public transport ticket system we have encountered), we managed to get a tram to our hotel. The hotel was a bit out of the city centre, right across from the "Hallenstadion" - Zurich's arena for ice hockey and concerts. But the hotel was almost brand new and the room was plenty big enough. We also had a great view of the hills behind us, and were woken by the local church bells every morning - very pretty!
The next day we caught the tram into the city - only to find that it was closed. Okay, so Zurich is closed on Sunday, we could deal with that! We made our way down to the lake (pretty much the main attraction in the city) and took a boat cruise around the whole lake, which was a great way to spend a couple of hours. Then we took a stroll around the river that runs through the city from the lake. That night we walked down the road for dinner...against the crowd, as huge amounts of people were heading to the arena for a Lenny Kravitz concert. Unfortunately we couldn't hear a thing coming for the arena - no free concert for us!!
So the next day was Monday and we were expecting to find the city buzzing with people and life...but no
It was a bit sad leaving Zurich, only due to the fact that we thought we hadn't experienced the Swiss way to its "full potential"! But in saying that, jt was almost a relief to be heading to an English speaking country - hello UK!!
