Our train from Munich took us to a stopover first in Bologna - we arrived late for our connecting train, so we managed to catch the next train to Florence about an hour later. Luckily Florence is only a small town, and it was only a short walk down a very cobbled street to our hotel :)

As it was evening when we arrived, we settled into our room then made our way down on of the little alleys off our street and found a little restaurant for dinner. Our first taste of REAL italian food  - delicious!

The next day we jumped onto to the tourist bus and headed around the city - there were two different routes to take, so we did the city one first. The second route took us over the river and about 8 kms out of the city to a little village called Fiasole. Set right up on top and down the side of one of many hills surrounding Florence, it was the quintessential Tuscan village - trees, cute little villas and resaturants scattered everywhere. There were also some very large villas, which I guess you would either have to be quite wealthy to own or be lucky to inherit! The view from the main piazza (or square) in the village was spectacular.

Later that afternoon we found some great little markets right near our hotel. Murano glass, italian leather bags and "cashmere" scarves...lovely things. We had a stroll then went back to the hotel to freshen up, then found another great little place for tea.

On Friday we found some time in the morning to head back to the markets to grab some souvenirs, then jumped onto a regional train to Pisa. The trip took just over an hours, and was free for both of us because of our Eurail pass. We found a sightseeing bus that stopped right outside the station, and made our way to see the Leaning Tower! Quite a bit bigger than I thought - and it really does have a very significant lean on it!!!! We spent about an hour looking around the area - there is also a large cathedral right alongside the Tower. We jumped back on the bus, headed back to the train station and caught the next train back to Florence.

So it was time to pack up our cases and move on again - away from Italy and towards Switzerland. We were sorry that we couldn't spend more time in such a lovely country, we enjoyed the short amount of time we spent there.
