We arrived in Prague in the late afternoon, and had to change currency as the Czech Republic use Koruny, not Euro. Then we made our way by metro to our hotel, which was a large building on the outskirts of the city - we had a fantastic view from our room. The hotel (another bargain through Expedia.com.au) was really more a business hotel, but it was complete with about 4 restaurants and a small casino! We had a lovely meal on our first night, and enjoyed the Czech version of Budweiser - so much nicer than the Yankee stuff!!! We added that to the list of beers we are going to look up at the local bottle-o!
We were only spending one day in Prague, so we caught the train early into the city centre, and grabbed some brekkie along the main street. There were literally swarms of tourists everywhere! We found a little tour bus company and headed around what is an extremely old city. The journey up to Prague Castle (the largest castle in the world apparently) was quite pretty, and the castle itself is a sight, as is the view from the gates onto the city. I managed to get a photo next to one of the guards - the poor guy must get so sick of silly tourists posing next to him as he tries to keep a straight face!
We made our way back to the hotel, and decided to be very lazy and order room service for dinner!! Complete with a couple of Czech Budweisers of course :)
The train we caught to Munich the next day was the worst that we have had - old, rusted and without airconditioning! Yuk! We changed trains at a small station due to technical problems (no wonder!!) but the next one wasn't much better!! Luckily we had some friendly Americans to speak some English to...
We did not think much of Prague at all, and kind of wish we hadn't bothered! I had read plenty of great reviews of the city, but we just didn't get it. Ah, the joys of travel :)
