The big thing here is Kauri gum. We had no idea what it was for a long time. Sap? Yup that's it. They used to 'bleed' the Kauri trees to get it and it is used for many things. That practice ended some years ago because it killed the trees. Now many souvenir shops sell all kinds of things made with it. Mostly carvings. It usually has a golden colour, but can be many different colours.
