What I did
Back in the car we travelled a little further and then stopped to take pictures of the Ramboda waterfall. Whilst here taking in the view I got accosted by a local family whose three daughters all wanted to have a picture taken with me. No-one could explain why they wanted my picture but clearly my stunning beauty dazzled them..... Or they had a dart board lacking a centre piece
Back in the car we stopped again a little further along for king coconuts and red bananas. They have four type of bananas here red, green, yellow short bananas, yellow long bananas. All taste the same as far as I was concerned. Interesting none the less. See pictures.....
Back in the car again we headed to the elephant orphanage. Here they had an elephant with three and a half legs who had stepped on a land mine and a 70 year old blind elephant. All the babies were born in captivity and could be bottle fed if you paid. The rest of the elephants were roaming around and we could get up close but the whole experience was all a bit commercial for my liking. Pay for a picture feeding an elephant, pay to bottle feed the babies etc.... Some of them were chained up and looked a bit distressed. Just a little uncomfortable for me to see.
Afterwards we headed to a restaurant on the river bank. Normally the elephants wander to the river here from the orphanage and spend an hour in the river. Due to the rain fall the river was very brown and the current was strong so it was too dangerous for the elephants to come down. We had lunch ( at last I ate something decent I.e chips) and then headed back to the car. We then got back in the car and travelled to our hotel in Negombo.
En route yesterday we saw a Mahout exercising his elephant and taking it for a walk (see pic). We also saw some lads taking their cows for a walk on a lead and someone else walking their two porcupines!!!
The hotel in Negombo is lovely and has a glass window by the bath so you can see the entire bathroom whilst in the bedroom - a lovely shot of Jase on the loo this morning greeted me! There is I hasten to add a blind that you can pull down.
Right must go. I'll follow with another update later on!
