I am sure not many of you new but after our travels, Alane and I are back at SMR at least she is. She is working in the reservations department, Teagans old position. I am still looking for work. I just had an interview for a management postion at Winter Park Resort. Anyways as we were driving into SMR late tuesday night we noticed that all the trees that were along the drive in were no longer there. Theu had all been cut down. And once we got to the actual campus we could see every building because every tree on campus was cut down. Some of you may know this but it was a shock to us. The place honestly looks like shit. There are piles of trees stacked up everywhere, stumps sticking out of the ground, and again you can see every building there is no privacy. Even all the trees in front of blue ridge are gone. When we woke up wednesday I looked out the window disgusted but noticed the mountainside was covered in RED pines trees. All the pines trees had died!! We found out that the mountain pine beetle has killed all of the pine trees in the area. It is a beetle that is killed off in the winter by freezing temps, but it has not been cold enough long enough for these beetles to die, so they are thriving and killing these trees every year. Grand county is the worst hit so far but the state is saying that colorado may lose every mountain pine in so many years because of the beetles. So every ski resort will be bare. Its crazy! I have attached some pics for your viewing pleasure. Oh and some other news BOBBY STEDMAN IS MARRIED!! Bobby has worked at SMR for almost three years and now works at Devils Thumb resort down the road and is married to a girl from paraquay i think. We got this news from nate who works here from the time we worked here. Thats the news but if I get the job at winter park i get to ski for free at almost every ski resort in colorado!
