We made it back from our week of volunteering Friday night and we enjoyed it so much we are going back for a second week at a different location. Actually, we just couldn't pass up the free food and free hotel. It helped a bit with the budget. But before we left for the second week on Sunday we spent Saturday touring Madrid.
Madrid has about 5 million people and it shows - the street were crowded by afternoon. Spain's schedule is a bit mixed up and they sleep in, eat late, and stay up way too late. So when we started touring the city at 9am it was only filled with tourists. We jumped back into our routine and grabbed the tourist map and hit all the main points in town, which included the Plaza Mayor, The Royal Palace, Plaza Espana, and Retiro Park. We enjoyed Madrid, it had plenty of restaurants and clothing shops to make anyone happy. The metro was clean, cheap and efficient. And the people were very interesting. It was Jarrett's favorite European city.
That night we met up with the other volunteers of the next weeks program and had a tapas dinner. More thumbnails ...
