Day 1
We arrived in Athens early in the afternoon. From the airport we caught the train/metro, which took us to the Monasterazi neighborhood, where we stayed. Once checked in and all, we went for a walk looking for a travel agency to check on trips to the islands. We were actually stopped by a guy who took us to an agency and we got our trip to Santorini booked up and from there started walking thru Athens. We walked thru the Parlament building, the presidential palace, and the Olympic Stadium. We also walked thru a shopping and restaurant neighborhood where we stopped for the best soup I have had so far in this trip. Day 2 We started touring Athens from its most important site, the Acropolis which has been under renovation for 25 years. We were lucky to have stayed at a hostel very close to the Acropolis which allowed us to get there early, sharing the space with a small crowd of travel groups and local school kids. By the time we were leaving the site the place was getting filled up with more groups and more kids. We spent about an hour walking thru the Parthenon, The Old Temple of Athena, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus (the theather where Yanni's live concert was taped) among others.
From the Acropolis we went to the Ancient Agora and Roman Ancient Agora and headed to the Zeus temple, besides different spots that we stopped at on the way but that we can remember all the names now. More thumbnails ...
