We are arrived in Melbourne one day earlier than expected, little did we know the only good thing about that was that we saved some money on the car rental. We stayed at the Formule 1 hotel again, since it is still cheaper than the hostels. We normally are able to check out the cities in about 2 days and now we have 3 so we figured we could take it easy and not cram too much into one day. We left the hotel each day at around 11am and arrived back by 6-7pm as we couldnt spend too much time walking around the city. One, because there isnt much to see and the second was that it is way to hot. South Australia is having its longest heat wave ever. It has been over 30 degrees celcius for so many days now and the first 2 days we have been in Melbourne it was 40 degrees celcius, which if you do the math thats about 104 ºF. Its hot.
The first day we checked out a few things in the city, one being the Melbourne Gaol. It is an old prison that has been standing since the gold rush. It housed the famous Ned Kelly, leader of the Kelly gang. The Kelly Gang was as famous as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. And we also visited a couple info centers to see what we could do. The next day we made a trip to the Melbourne Aquarium since it was 40 outside. It was a great place to visit and we got to see some weird sea animals and to see huge stingrays, sea turtles and many sharks (along with other fishes) getting fed. That was entertaining as the stingrays would cover the divers and the turtle would try to get food from their buckets and so on... we had some pancakes for lunch at the Pancake Parlour since we had coupons which made it feasable since everything in Australia is ridiculously expensive. We had a buy one get one free coupon for a short stack of pancakes, which was 2 pancakes with a scoop of ice cream for 9 dollars. This is cheap after having cheeseburgers at a typical restaurant for $15. The last day in Melbourne we spent going to the library to try to update the travel blog, since there isnt much else to do here and also because its free internet, however we had only 15 min to use the cpu so we had to leave and wait in line for another free cpu every 15 mins and that wasnt fun.
Our last day in Melbourne was a little better as the weather cooled a little to about 27ºC. We spent the day walking thru the center, went to the Melbourne Museum and walked by the Parlament house and The Block, which were pretty nice. More thumbnails ...
