On our way to Santiago de Chile
Entry 22 of 61 | show all | print this entry |
Our plane from Punta Arenas to Santiago do Chile was to leave at 2pm so we took our time around Punta Arenas for the last time. After packing everything up in the morning, we went for a walk, this time filming and taking more pictures of the city. If you dont remember, this was actually my first time visiting the city, since Jarrett visit it by himself while I was pissed off at the airline because of our lost luggage so I stayed at the hostel.... but let's forget about that!
Punta Arenas is quite cute, a very well preserved town. On our way to the airport the taxi driver told us that there are about 10,000 people there.... It was a little difficult to actually see locals, as most of the people on the streets are travellers, but I am sure they are there.
We made to Santiago with luggage this time! We had a transfer reserved to pick us up and to take us to the La Chimba Hostel. At first sight, Santiago is just a big city... nothing crazy about it.
Our hostel was actually located at the restaurant/bars zone - Bella Vista, so once we got checked in the hostel, which was already 8pm, we went for a short walk and to grab something to eat. On the main roads of Bella Vista there are many restaurants and bars with their tables and chairs on the sidewalks... really busy place...we ended up chosing a "seat inside" restaurant which was probably a mistake.... the restaurant was a little old and the food not very good. Our waiter was old (guessing about late 70's) and he kept forgetting where we were seated, so our drinks and food went for a walk before reaching our table!! The funniest thing was when we asked for our check, which took at least 30 minutes to come, and then the old waiter made sure to remind us for his tip...not only once, but twice, and he wasnt very happy when I told him (for the second time) that we would leave the tip not on the credit card but in cash... he looked a little doubtful right there...oh well!
Since we arrived at the hostel late at night, the person at the reception was unable to book us on any tour for the next day. At that time most of the tour agencies were already closed, and the guy at the reception was not the best to help us with this anyway.... so we ended up going to bed without knowing what we would be doing on the next day, which we feared we would waste the day.
