Today Jen drove us to Yellowstone. We took some pictures by the entrance then moved on to Mammoth Hot Springs. Right after we parked, a bald eagle flew over us! We walked through the wooden walkways to check out the smelly springs. There were a bunch of elk just hanging out near the springs. After we sufficiently explored the hot springs, we stopped at the general store to get ice cream, and we tasted our first huckleberries. Plus, I found an awesome cowboy hat, which I really needed (ok, wanted). We drove another hour through the park to get to our campsite in Canyon Village. On the drive we saw three bison and a deer. We finally made it to our campsite and got checked in and got some information from the ranger station about where we can hike tomorrow. The lady at the check-in told us that we could have a fire if we could find our fire-ring. We thought that was a little weird, but then she mentioned that a lot of the fire rings and picnic tables are still buried in snow
Tuesday, June 28, 2011- We fell for the falls!
We woke up at our Canyon Village campground and after a quick bite, we made our way to Mt. Washburn. We hiked about four miles up to the top of the mountain- 10,243 feet high! At the top there was an observation room where we ate our packed lunches out of the wind. The hike back down was much easier and faster, but the whole adventure took several hours of the day. After the hike, we drove through the "Roosevelt Area" of the park and saw a grizzly bear on the side of a hill
