Monday June 13th

We headed back to 101 north to continue on our way. Our next stop was when 101 reaches the Pacific Ocean and we were now in the Olympic National Park. We stopped at the pullout for Beach No. 1 and walked the trail out to the cliff over the beach. It was pretty and we got some good pictures. We also walked the trail to see the Sitka spruce with their burls. Apparently the burls are like tumors, but they don't kill the trees. They are just and overgrowth of cells that produces huge knobs on the sides of the trees.

We headed back to the RV and back up 101 north to stop at Ruby Beach. Here we actually walked down the trail to the beach and again were able to bring Nash with us. It was also gorgeous and we got some pictures. There was a lighthouse out on an island, but we aren’t sure what lighthouse it is. There are tons of dead logs on the beach all along here and Nash had a great time walking on them. There were signs stating that you have to be cautious of the drift logs in the water. Some of the logs are from upriver from trees that fall down and get washed down the stream and some are from right there on the coast when they fall.
