Thursday, June 2nd

Today we got up early and got a move on. We scheduled an oil change at a Camping World in Junction City for 3:30pm today so we had to make sure we were done all of our sightseeing in time today. The campground we stayed in last night was a little bit south of Florence, OR so we decided to head there first to check out the town. They also have an Old Town, which was pretty similar to Bandon's Old Town with lots of cute little shops and galleries and on the Siuslaw River. We stumbled upon a thrift store and of course had to check it out. We were originally just looking for something that we could use to make the pegs for the cribbage board, but we ended up being there forever. They were having a bag sale, which meant in their back room anything you can fit in the bag you buy the whole bag for $3. Jared found a corduroy jacket that he fell in love with and it fit in the bag. The jacket would have normally been $4 by itself so we were already saving $1. Then we found some awesome golf spikes that are just my size and in the bag they went. They look practically brand new and were basically free. Unfortunately we couldn’t find more things we wanted to put in the bag. We then went next door to another thrift store and picked up two dvds. After finishing up at the thrift stores we had to move along pretty quickly to keep to our schedule.

We headed out of Florence a couple of miles north for the Sea Lion Caves.  The Sea Lion Caves are a natural cave that tons of sea lions hang out in.  After paying the admittance fee there is an elevator that takes you down 200 feet to the sea lion cave. There weren’t too many in the cave when we were there because they were all outside on some rocks. The video we watched with the information said that they spend most of the fall and winter months in the cave and then the spring and summer months out on the rocks.  In the opposite direction of the elevator there is a lookout place that you can see the rocks they lay on. There were tons out there. We also were able to see the Heceta Head Lighthouse from the Sea Lion Caves. This was great because we wanted to see the lighthouse, but we didn’t want to pay the day use fee to get out to it. After finishing up at the Sea Lion Caves we headed for Junction City.
