Wednesday, June 1st

After finishing up with the lighthouse photo shoot we continued on our way on 101. We ended up veering off of 101 to take a road that would have us driving closer to the coast. We wanted to check out the Cape Argo Lighthouse and stop in Charleston, OR, which is further west than were 101 travels at this point. 101 mostly hugs the coast the entire way except for this little stretch. There really is no way to get to close to the Cape Argo Lighthouse so we had to take our pictures from a Viewpoint a little distance away. Then we continued on our way into Charleston. Charleston was really small with basically just a little fishing pier and boat docks. We did stop in at Chucks Seafood in Charleston.  We purchased some shrimp, smoked salmon sticks, bread and some powder mixes to make a shrimp pasta meal for dinner.

If you're ever out that way again, pull over at Lighthouse Road (its a private road so park on the side on Cape Arago hwy). If you walk down a little ways, in between the houses there's a trail that the surfers created to get down to Lighthouse beach. That beach has the BEST views of the lighthouse. Wear good shoes though, the trail down is steep but worth the hike down.
