Tuesday, May 31st

The next stop we made was in Gold Beach (miners discovered gold on the beach in the mid-1800s, which gave the town its name) when we saw a sign for a visitor's center. We stopped in and they had the guide we were looking for. The guy working it was extremely helpful and set us up with a number of other brochures to help us figure out all we would like to see in Oregon. One of them he gave us points out different lighthouses along the coast. The first one happens to be in the state park we picked to stay tonight. So we are going to hike out to it when we get there. We had already decided from our book that we would eat lunch in Gold Beach at a little café. We headed to the Port Hole Café. Jared got a seafood plate that he enjoyed, but was a little heavy on the breading for the fried things on the plate. I got the Donna Sandwich which was roast beef, swiss cheese, onions, and peppers on sourdough toast. It was listed as a local favorite and it was delicious. They also make homemade pies and desserts. We were too full to eat it there, but Jared got a slice of blackberry pie and I got a slice of apple pie to go. When we finished lunch we both decided to call our parents to chat for a little bit since we finally had some good cell service. My mom was very happy to hear from me since she texted me over the weekend and called me yesterday all to no response from me. I informed her that I was fine and just didn’t have service until today.
