Today we left our campground to drop Nash off at the University Animal Hospital and the RV at a self storage facility. After taking care of that we caught a cab to the airport. When we got to the airport our flight was already delayed an hour so we had 3 hours to wait in the airport.
I passed the time by reading a book on our computer and Jared watched a movie on his phone. We finally boarded our flight and left Phoenix around 2:30pm. We got in to Atlanta around 9pm. Our next flight was supposed to take off at 9:52pm, but it was already delayed to 11:05pm. While we sat and waited our flight got pushed back to 11:35pm and then we had to switch gates. When we got to the new gate our flight got pushed back until 12:30am. A little while later a woman came on to say that our departure time hasn't officially changed yet but due to the storms she would assume we wouldn't be leaving until 1am or 2am
Things really got crazy after this. They made us go down to another area to talk to customer service about booking new flights. Of course it was a mad dash then with people sprinting through the airport. As soon as we got to the customer service area there was a woman standing there telling us that we had to go downstairs because these people were closing up. She also gave us a number we could call to try to rebook flights. Jared worked on making the call for us as we headed to the other customer service center. There are lots of details to the story but the main point after this is that we waited in line for 3 hours and ended up booking a flight for Thursday morning at 7:30am. You may be thinking this is great news since by now it was 3:30am so we would be leaving in 4 hours. The only snag to this plan was that our flight was taking us to Newark, NJ instead of Philadelphia. They had absolutely no flights to Philly.
We ended up staying the night in the airport. I slept for about an hour and Jared didn't sleep at all.
Thursday, April 28th
Jared woke me up around 5:30am and let me know that our gate had been changed. We headed to the correct gate and were happy to see that a plane was already there. I called my house around 6:30am to let them know the plan and discuss how best we could get to Philly from Newark. We were planning on taking a train, but Dad decided that he would come pick us up. We were so excited about this. Thanks again Dad.
We spent the rest of today and all of tomorrow with my family. I am really glad that we came home for the services even though Gram had told Dad to tell us not to. Like I said I am really going to miss Gram and I know that everyone else will too. She was truly great and at least we have all our happy memories with her.
