konnichi wa minasan !!!
this is our first official entry for Japan Trip 2007! at the moment we are sitting in an office writing from Toho High School, Nagoya. we arrived in Japan on Friday afternoon at about 4.30pm (5.30pm back home). the flight was long, boring and tiring! we all tried to sleep as much as possible but it was very hard to. the first whole day (Saturday) was spent sightseeing beautiful traditional japanese shrines and castles on two tours. Japan is sooo beautiful and very busy!! for the morning tour we saw a japanese castle which was the home of samurais and also visited a shrine. the afternoon tour was spent visiting two shrines in Nara that were located in deer parks. there were deer everywhere!!
day two (Sunday) was spent sightseeing around Hiroshima. we visited the last standing building from the a-bomb (the a-dome) then we went to the Hiroshima Peace Museum to learn more about the bombings. we also saw the memorial of Sadako and her 1000 paper cranes. after a long train ride home, we arrived back at the hotel. yesterday (Monday) we left Kyoto and traveled to Nagoya to meet our first host families. it was very nerve-wracking to sit on the train wondering what they were like! after we were introduced, we were all separated from each other. when we left, we all went and did different things. some went shopping, some went out for lunch, and others went straight home. each of us have many different experiences to tell of meeting and living with the families.
today (Tuesday) we all got up and ready for school at various times. all of us had different methods of getting to school. we met each other at Toho High, glad to see familiar faces!!!!!!!!!!! we spent an hour and a half modelling for the art students, who were drawing our portraits. after that we had a short tour of the school. it is VERY big and modern. the school is 5 stories high. for the rest of the day we will be at the school doing various activities. we all are all getting very homesick, some dealing with it better than others. but we are all very thankful and glad to be here. we will write again soon. miss you all very much.
