The past few days have been very eventful actually. Where do I begin. Well we taught our first class on Tuesday. I was actually quite nervous at first. I didn't know what to expect. We went into the class room and Sayaka-san (the teacher who has been helping us and letting us teach her class) asked us whether we had in-door shoes. Chris and I looked at each other in confusion. I think I have heard about in-door shoes in japanese dramas and on other TV shows but didn't really think about it. We both ended up going in from the back entrance and going around barefoot:) Haha. I am so Americanized. I am really starting to realize that.
So we played a lot of games with the kids. First we got together and tossed a ball around asking all the kids "what's your name." The kids were just having a lot of fun playing with the ball actually. You know how kids get when you give them a ball. I miss being that excited about a ball. So next I got some of the little kids together and did a game called "Ordering food." Basically I gave each kid a tray and then I line up a whole bunch of pictures of food on the table. Then, I get the kids to come up to me and I order food by saying " I want a apple, or I want a hamburger, etc." I did it one object at a time though. They then go to the table and get the foods I asked for. The kids were very energetic about it:) I had a lot of fun. I had extra time so I gathered the kids together and named 5 or 6 items and then asked them to remember it and get all of them. They dashed towards the table knocking over a lot of the pictures on the floor. I love how enthusiastic kids get. We all had a good laugh together.
Chris also did a game with the older kids where each kid gets a set of 4 cards. So each kid get 4 pencils or 4 erasers. They then have to ask each other "Do you have a pencil, or do you have an eraser?" They then gather one of each card. They also have to make sure to say thank you at the end. Another thing I noticed with these kids are that they are soooooo polite!! Man, I am very impressed. I have to be honest, when I took care of kids at the daycare or even at the hospitals there is always 1 or 2 kids who may be a little rude. I mean it's ok though cause kids tend to be blunt. But here in Japan, all the kids are taught manners so well. They really show a lot of respect.
Haha so they told us to sing songs and we didn't really know what to sing. We sang BINGO and Head shoulders knees and toes, but then didn't know what else to sing. We then just started to sing a song by the "the Almost" called "Dirty and Left out." It was actually a song we were going to sing for special music but we just sang it for the kids.....well... the parents really liked it:):) LOL the kids were really quite so I don't know if that meant they liked it or hm.... well they were watching us really closely..???who knows. It was a slow song though so. We actually have a song prepared for today. Right now we are just waiting for Sayaka to pick us up for our class. We are going to sing a disney song from toy story. "You got a friend in me" I hope they like it. When we asked Sayaka she said they probably will love it.
Oh yeah the other day we were walking down to the church and 2 of the kids we met at church last week were playing. As we were walking by we heard "Hey, it's Coco and nuts!" They started to wave and smiled at us. We waved back and I just laughed at the fact that they really knew us as Coco and nuts.....Of course I am still nuts....lol! Alright bye for now
