I am having a hard time remembering what I did today. Ishould write down the days events every night. I think today was a blur of.....oh yeah! Orientation was today. It was good. Registered for classes & such. I think im taking way too many. Oh well. But during worship it hit me. Im not just here for a few weeks on a missions trip then back home. Im here for school, four months with these 19 other people, my family away from family. This isn't something short or insignificant. This will be the most intense time of my life. Learning, growing, stretching, loving, forgiving, LIVING. Only God can do this! Im really excited for my classes, ready to start learning again.
1.26.07 Today is Shabbat. Well, at sunset it will be. So the morning was spent preparing for it. We went to the shuk (its like a farmers market with a bunch of different stands all selling wonderful things. Too much good food) & bought our groceries for the week. By the way, the hummus & pita is the best. Massive amounts of pita for five shekels! That's barely one American dollar. I love it here! For Shabbat we walk to the old city. First we went to the church of the Holy Sepleclur. It was kind of ridiculous. It's the place where the Catholics believe that Jesus died & was buried & where he rose again & all that. I meant it was ridiculous just by the way it was set up & how the people where. Kissing the rock where "Jesus was prepared for the grave" & touching the rock wall through this gold circle thing because it is "where Jesus was crucified on top of". I was saddened by the idolatry of it all.
After that we went to a Christian church where the English lady gave us a history of Jerusalem the beliefs of the Jews. Its funny how similar Jews & Christians are, yet also how far away & different we are also. Our belief in God is the same, yet they miss the true messiah. They read the old testament that is FILLED with prophecies of Jesus, & how it could be NO ONE ELSE BUT HIM, yet they don't believe it. They are blinded. Then......oh goodness. Where do I begin. We went to the western wall. Also known as the wailing wall. I was grieved again by their belief in traditions. It was a beautiful time though. I went up to the wall, & prayed too. A Jewish girl gave me a psalm book of the Hebrew prayers. Some of them were written in English. Once again, so close to us but yet far away. The prayers were like those I read in the psalms of David! Yet if they read the psalms correctly then they would see Jesus in them. Even in their own Hebrew psalms they would. Those blinders again.
Well, I cant even tell you fully what that whole experience was like. One I will never forget, I know that for sure. When it is not the Sabbath I will go again, then I can take some pictures & touch the wall this time. God is good. Yeshua. More thumbnails ...
