Today, Thursday October 3rd, we visited Bucksport, Maine.  We strolled down the Million Dollar River Walk.  We sat on the bench and just sat back and enjoyed the wonderful breezes and the spectacular view.  As you look out over the magnificent Penobscot Bay, you see a cable bridge with two large towers.  You can also see a huge Fort.
After our river walk, we hopped in the car to drive over to the bridge.  To our surprise we find out it is called Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory.  We took the elevator up 42 stories.  OH, OH, MY Gosh!!!!  At the top you are in AWE. You have a breathtaking 360 degree view and are 420 feet up in the air.  All I can say "God, you are so Great".  During our tour we learned that this is the only bridge observatory in North America and the tallest observatory in the world.  The view is spectacular !!!!!!
You can also see the Fort from up there.  We found out it is called Fort Knox.  I thought we had the only Fort Knox in KY.  Fort Knox in KY. was named after the same man, General Henry Knox.  Lots and lots of granite was used to build the Fort.  The construction began in 1844, but was never completed, worked stopped on it in 1869.  The fort was never completely finished.
We wrapped up the day with a wonderful meal at MacLeod's, a landmark restaurant in mid-coast Maine for over three decades.  It was great!!   If you're ever in Maine...Eat here.   Penobscot  River and Penobscot Bay was one of the prime lumber exporting areas of it's time. The river is tidal, and is kept open by icebreakers during the winter.  River traffic goes all the way to Bangor.
