Well it was a jam packed day in Sucre following our arrival on our first long distance bus journey in Bolivia; and that had certainly been an experience! The promised films did not materialise, this would have been difficult as there was just an old jumper in place of the TV set. And the lack of toilet on the bus meant that even the slightest hint of a stop was met with a mad stampede of passengers trying to disembark to find the nearest convenience.
But the sun was shining in Sucre when we arrived and we also ran into a couple who had been staying at Jodanga a few days earlier. So over the course of the evening we made tentative plans to catch up with them in Potosí and travel on from there together to complete a tour of the Sala de Uyuni. In the meanwhile, we spent a full day out in Sucre, which has a deserved reputation as one of the finest cities in south America. The historical streets are carefully maintained and whitewashed to a strict schedule, and the main square must be the most attractive in the country.
After soaking up the sun in the squares, Sophie was keen eyed enough to spot a camping shop where I was able to buy a sleeping bag for the impending trip to the Salar. It was going to get pretty cold out there and I needed to be prepared! We also followed the recommendation of a local and enjoyed an excellent meal later that evening in a place just off the main square. Which we thought was pretty good going after a night spent on the bus with very little sleep!
