Left siena with noddy, our car hire for 3days, fiat panda, just fitting in our bags. Headed off to chianti sculpture park, approx 30large pieces placed in woodland of visual delight. Pieces by artists from all countries and other pieces in owners premises which was an old pottery furnace. This building was incredible and the views, wow. Then to volterra, hill town of course, what else in tuscany. Stayed the night just outside wall area overlooking the valley, locals walking around at night pre dinner chatting in the streets. Places dn,t open for dinner till 730 so we have had many late nights lately. Starts to get dark at 4.30 so hate to see what it's like in winter. We explored volterra more n the morning then drove to San gimignano, we just called it jimminey cricket, another hill town with 14 towers left standing out of 72. The views from the top of a old tower area was great, nick was even more impressed by a bloke playing the flute, his music floated through this quiet olive tree park. Nick grumbled away about it for the next hour. Yes, he didn,t buy one of his cd,s. set off west to bibbona to see the seaside areas. Hmmmmm everything closed, beach is black sand, area is dull n drab, buildings everywhere but all shut. So ended up a fun hour trying to find somewhere to stay, ended up near hill town of bolgheri. Hotel with only us in it, middle of a vineyard much more to this story but not enough room.
Drove back inland today, small winding roads into tiny towns, no one else on the road thank goodness, went through forest areas, olive tree areas, more walled towns, forts, vineyards. Saw landslide affected area from floods of 5 days ago, roads closed. Ended up at orvieto, dropped car off heading towards amalfi coast tomorrow.
Oh no iPad s full so can,t upload any photos. Bugger
