Travelled from rovinj to Trieste by bus then train to Venice. Had no idea what we were doing, got off one stop too early but just caught the next train. Arrived in a drizzling rain on and off. Everyone walking around in gum boots, plastic bag shoes, plastic bag hats and yes the Indians selling umbrellas here as well. They said it was 30cm of water over st marks square at high tide. Board walks were set up along the walkways approx 50cm high. It was the first time it has come up this year... It will happen again tonight and tomorrow. So while there was no drizzle we had a gondola ride, small bottle of white wine along the way for our welcome into the city. So many people here, shops restaurants gelatos souvenirs and of course Indians selling roses, umbrellas, flashing light toys. Not as annoying as in Rome so one bonus. We are staying right near st marks square, went out walking and had no idea where we ended up just head turning at every sight. Came back finally just by looking for signs to the square. Picked up the ipad as the app jizelle loaded has a GPS map finder for Venice....yahoo, thanks jizelle.dinner of lobster ravioli grilled veges was wonderful.
