Great journey over here, flights all ran to time. Arrived Singapore about 6pm local time Monday 26th - airport spotless and found MRT link easily. Took MRT to a stop which was opposite our hotel - how ideal was that!
Hotel is in a fantastic location, right on Clarke Quay, which is one of the hubs of nightlife in the area. We've been trying to plan our days to fit everything in that we want to cover. On Tuesday we took a 'bumboat' trip on the Singapore River down to Merlion Park. The Merlion is a statue of a half fish/half lion, which is a fountain at the entrance of the river. Later that day, we went to the Zoo and took in the Night Safari. The Zoo is so well designed that the barriers of the enclosures are not always visible - there were even Orang Utans swinging in the trees above our heads!!! Night safari was like the real thing - the highlight of this has to be the fruit bats flying around us and the Giant Red Flying Squirrels, which swooped down from the trees - thankfully not crashing into us as we perfected the art of ducking!!
Yesterday, we took the monorail across to Sentosa Island and did a couple of theme park type attractions at Imbiah Terrace, before heading down to the Beach Station. We even crossed a swing bridge taking us to the Southern most point on the continent of Asia. The views were like an idyllic south sea island vista until you saw the gridlock of tankers and vessels waiting to enter the port. (Singapore is the busiest sea port in the world - not hard to accept this when you see the traffic jam!!)
Today, we are wandering around Marina Esplanade and taking in a few other sights. As we are here at the time of Chinese New Year, we are going to head to ChinaTown later to soak in the atmosphere.
Tomorrow will be a bit more relaxing as we catch our flight early evening. Can't get over how spotlessly clean this place is - even the underground!! Definitely worth a return visit.
Weather is lovely and hot but not too humid - no frost here!!
Singapore Slings are now beckoning at Raffles Hotel!!!
