Dec.1st.  Nights were getting pretty chilly in Alabama so we decided to head for some heat! Wound up in Destin, Florida.  Just an exquisite beach here.  Pure white sand and gorgeous, crystal clear water.  This seems to be the western point on the gulf where the Emerald Coast of the Florida begins.  We are both extremely impressed by the unspoiled water here. NOTHING is washed up on shore. No trash, no oil gobs, just white, fine sand everywhere.

We are staying at Henderson Beach State Park in Destin.  It is a picturesque, perfectly maintained coastal park. There is a short walk through natural dunes to the quiet beach.  We love it here!  Days are in the high 70s, which we understand is 10 degrees above average for this time of year.

We rode our bikes to the vibrant harbor in Destin.  A very cool place with great restaurants, pubs, little shops and a very active commercial fishing presence.  We watched crews unloading a bountiful catch of Red Snapper while we were biking by.  Private charters are also offered along with boat tours to see the Bottle nose Dolphins that are in the area.

The Destin area looks ready and prepared to handle a large influx of vacationers.  We understand that the winter months are the quietest and the action really picks up in the spring. We're sure with the normal high temperature in the low 60s is why snowbirds continue further south if they are into hangin' at the beach.....

Oh my gosh! That's where Paul and I went in May for our niece's wedding! We were right on the water; I took a yoga class Saturday morning on the beach. If you google yoga + Destin, the class time and place should come up. We went to the State Park for the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding, in one of those thatched-roof pavilions. The beach there is gorgeous, as you have found out. I'm glad you discovered Destin.

Hey Ellyn, how cool is that? Again.....small world huh? Yeah, this beach is just gorgeous! Great place for a wedding. I'll check into the yoga class on the beach. That's something I always have wanted to do. Thanks so much for the comment!
