So we have all had our sicknesses. Some more, some less. I think we are starting to be on the mend. We have decided to stay one extra day in Quito before moving on to Baños to make sure we are up for the 3 1/2 hr bus ride (with no toilets). Today was our last spanish class. The kids are ecstatic to be done. Andrew and I would love to learn more but we have enough to get by and it is time to move on.
We are busy trying to finalize our travel plans but it is never easy. The one place I really want to go to in Costa Rica (as mentioned in the Lonely Planet book) is proving impossible to get hold of. The website given has been down since Christmas (or before for all I know). The phone number does not take international calls. The email address does not garner a reply! Hmph!

Anyone out there who likes to get away to a warm climate but is not necessarily a lie on the beach type - I highly recommend Ecuador. There are so many different things to do in such a small country (and cheaply I might add). Hopefully there will soon be more affordable flights from Canada. We found it was cheaper to fly on a cheap ticket to Miami and then fly here.
The poverty here is something else though. It is not "in your face" all the time but its there. My spanish teacher was telling me there is a big problem with teenage pregnancy. She also said that babies are very often left in the street or garbage cans to die. It is very sad to say the least.
