For such a big city the airport is quite small and rudimentary.
Doesnt even get close to Brussels airport for example.
I was a bit affraid after having heard all the stories noticably nervous.
Good thing I got talking with two guys at the customs line.
One of them stayed at the airport since his connection didnt provide enough time to go to Rio and back but the other guy offered to share a cab. I gracefully accepted this and got safely in to Rio. We went to his hotel and I checked the details of the hostel there as the paper that my friend had printed for me didnt actually contain the address, only the confirmation information. Epic fail but nothing I couldnt handle. Stressful though :-s
None of the internet pcīs at the hotel were actually working so I had to go to the reception and they gracefully helped me out. Got a taxi to the hostel. It appeared to be quite remote as the taxi driver actually took quite a while driving around the small streets of Santa Teresa before he found it!
Got in to my room and it turned out to be quite basic. A room, a fan, a quickly put together toilet and shower. It was a bit of a shock but I quite like it now I think, provided I get back there later on without getting robbed or stabbed.
I must say itīs quite difficult to communicate here at the moment, nobody speaks english or spanish. Itīll be an interesting 3 more days for sure :-). I tried to call my friend whom I shared the taxi with as I still have to buy him some drinks to return the cab fair. Heīs not answering though which is a bit disappointing :-(
All thatīs left is to find a place to eat on my own then and see what the night brings.
