Chez Marie Therese et Michel... Home Exchange

Wow what a change a TGV ride makes!

We headed south to the coastal town of Antibes, former home of Picasso, for our first home exchange.  For those of you new to the practice, we've arranged to stay in a home while the owners stay in ours.  In our case, they will come to Seattle later in the year, but both of us will enjoy vacation without the hotel fees.  Marie Therese and Michel, experienced home exchangers, welcomed us to their condo with a lovely lunch.  The sun was shining and we were thrilled to find we were only about a hundred meters from the beach.

After dinner together and a good night's sleep, they took us to Cannes where the 62nd annual film festival was taking place.  Michel gets movie tickets through his work (now retired) and they gave us invitations to have cocktails on one of the hotel verandas as well as passes for the movies of the day Michel et Marie Therese

.  At that point, we said our goodbyes, and they went to their home in Chamonix, leaving us a little stunned in Cannes with movie passes.  Not to let a good thing go to waste, we headed to the hotel and tried to look important while enjoying our cocktails and admiring the view of the swanky yachts off shore.  With a few hours to kill until our movie, we walked along the boardwalk and took in the sights.  A small crowd of paparazzi caught our attention ahead, so like good gawkers we joined them to see what the fuss was about.  A few minutes later, Eva Longoria and Tony Parker walked out of a restaurant.  Star sightings in our pocket, we headed over to the theatre for the movie that our hosts recommended (mostly because it was in English).  It turns out they suggested a good movie for us because as Humpday started, we realized that not only was it very funny, but that the story took place in Seattle, probably in Capitol Hill.  So for those of you in Seattle, go check out Humpday.  With that, we were pretty shell shocked from the crazy movie scene and headed back to our little beach town.

Here in Antibes, you just sort of have to kick back and watch the ocean hum.  France runs a 'Night at the Museums' event where many of the nation's museums are free.  The photos you see here are from the local Picasso museum.   The statues aren't Picasso's, but the view was too good to pass up.  For the rest of the week, we're going to enjoy the olives and the ocean.  We spent the day biking from Juan les Pins, through Cap d'Antibes, and back to Antibes along the coast.  Beautiful!  We don't have very good internet service here, and will possibly be without for some of the next stages of our trip, but promise to enjoy the scene.  We head to Italy soon, just for a few days.  We'll certainly keep updating as technology allows.  As always, we love to hear from you and hope everyone is doing well.

Peace Out,
-Stopher & Jamie

Humpday!
So funny that you saw that film at Cannes! I just read about it in the SIFF guide and am planning to go see it -- I believe it was filmed here on the hill.

Enjoy your homestay... I'll look forward to hearing more about how that goes. You must be heading next to Monterosso, no? Have a wonderful time in the Cinque Terre!!!

Sending love,
Jamie

grrr
good lord, woman - you are slaying me with these pictures and your trip! Cannes? seriously? Antibes looks amazing. What are you going to offer them when they come to our rainy city? haha. not eva longoria, thats for sure. Maybe you can get some passes for the Duck tour. :)
On another note, I am still envisioning myself in all black, smoking cigarettes, beret donned, drinking wine in all your pictures.
love the updates!
