Where I stayed
After a small detour round Quito due to a miscommunication we got a bus to Tulcan - the border town ($5). Apart from some chaps trying to sell us mints while telling us their life stories, this is a regular occurence on South American buses, some great views and 4 hours of traveling nothing really to tell here.
Once at Tulcan we swiftly hooked up with come Colombians and shared a taxi to the border ($2). This border is easy, well for Gringos, we had to leave or Colombian friends there arguing with the passport control person
We finally arrived in Medellin, the 1990s murder capital of the world, tired and weary. Again we had been suggested a hostel so a quick $4 taxi to The Palm Tree saw us sorted.
Medellin was not much more than a stop over so not much to tell. We went for the customary walks round the town etc. Caroline noticed a lot of fake boobies, female kind not Galapagos bird kind, I however missed this completely. I am now trying to be much more observant! Medellin is nestled deep in a valley and surrounded by hills. Home of the infamous Pablo Escobar and his Cartel de Medellin - the town in which the "Colombian Necktie" was born. All in all, it's a very safe place.
We left for our chillout destination of Tananga at 6pm (80,000 pesos).
