Never the best way to be introduced to a town arriving at 2am. Luckily we had Czech support. The same Czechs who had offered me some potent booze at 9am 17 hours before! We trekked around the town and finally found a room in the City hostel (150 Peso).
Trelew is not the small Welsh settlement town you would be expecting from descriptions. Its a biggish town with not much individual about it. But Gaiman is the Welsh town that is only 25 mins away on the 28 de Julio bus. Sadly when you arrive there really is not that much a special interest. I am not going to say its boring as some people might find it fascinating. The list of attractions include:
The first secondary school in Patagonia
The first Post office in Gaiman. (someone lives there now)
A tunnel which is 300m long and is dark in the middle
Tea rooms
The Guinness book of record House built out of cans
On thins Gaiman did have was an excellent pub or a cervezaeria, or as we`d call in the UK a Beereria! And to top that off it served good cider!
After our slightly disappointing trip to the welsh villages we visited to Dinosaur museum in Trelew. Its expensive at 40,000 peso but def worth it and it is also in English! Loved it.
Sadly thats all for Trelew and the Welsh Settlements. Off to spot Orca in Puerto Madryn! (Caroline will take over from here in the next one!)
