Another dodgy bus journey to Guayaquil (5Hrs) over rough dirt roads, with dodging landslides every 10mins and getting off for the police control check whereby everyone was lined up and searched head to toe. Arriving at the smartest bus station we had ever seen we couldnīt help notice the planes flying over our heads, realising the airport was close we jumped on a bus. We got the bus completely wrong and ended up travelling 10mins the wrong direction, maneuvering our sweaty selves and very inconvenient bags out of the bus in the middle of the dodgy part of town we jumped straight in a taxi heading to the airport.
I have never arrived at an airport and asked for the next flight out of there, so this was a novelty, although we were a little restricted as we only wanted to go to the Galapagos ( going to Quito wouldnīt have quite been the same!). There are only 2 airlines that fly to the Galapagos, both airlines were full for the next week, a little dishearted our spontaneity hadnīt quite worked we were delighted to be told by AeroGal to turn up the next morning and we would be put on a waiting list.
We checked into a very boring looking hotel nr the airport for convenience for the next morning. Thinking we were going to have a night of staying in watching Spanish TV we were pleased to meet a group of Americans (Nate, Ben, Tori and Nick) staying in the room next door. We got a taxi (you have to get taxis at night as it is too dangerous to walk in this city) with the Americans to a nicer part of town for some food and eventually into the city centre for more drinks.
Early start for an nervous wait at the airport. They took pity on us and we managed to que jump in front so we got the next flight to the Galapagos that morning - yey heh!!!
