Okay so today we decided that we were going to try out some camping! To feed my obsession with Volcanoes we chose to go to Ensenada about 1.5 hours north east of Puerto Montt. This is an absolutely stunning place with the most fantastic views of a volcano overlooking a huge lake. Condor like birds were eating salmon from the lake on the rocky shore. The weather was fantastic and the campsite very rustic. So out came the 4 pound supermarket tent. We immediately saw problems. This was a very fair weather tent but also it was a fair weather tent for those even more vertically challenged then myself. It was also 100% not waterproof, for the campers out there it didn´t even have a flysheet. I may have to admit that when buying a tent you should do a little more research that cost. A 2 person tent does not give space for two backpacks. (you´ll be glad to hear that we have upgraded to a fully waterproof 4 man tent with entrance area!)
So all the problems didn't matter to us as it was a hot day. I even went for a dip in the lake. Lovely.
Well at 7 pm, after a couple of litres of wine, the weather decided that sun was boring and rain was much more fun. So we´re there sitting outside with a tiny tent and nowhere to put our bags and it rains. Panic.... We managed to find a shed with a roof and stowed our bags away but that still left us with the problem of us. We decided to risk the tent thinking it´ll be fine as long as we don´t touch the sides. The manager of the hut came and said we should let her look after our bags as it was more secure. She would later live to regret that.. After 1 hour in the tent things started to go even more wrong. Caroline started to feel drips falling on her face. We had to make the move to a drier abode. Luckily with our bags in the managers office we could take refuge in the hut. With not much room and a very hard floor we had to make do. Hopefully the pictures give a sort of idea of the night!!!!
When we went to collect our bags the next morning we learnt that my alarm clock had gone off at 6am and continued to beep till 10am!!! Whoops! More thumbnails ...
