This was to be a mammoth day of travelling... We were to take a motorbike to the bus, a bus to the ferry,, a ferry to the mainland, a motorbike to the minibus, a mini bus to the bus, a bus to the mini bus and then a bike to the hotel!!!
I'm not going to bore you with the details of each journey but we were happy we had cracked the bus ticket situation when we found out the Germans on the bus paid 3 times as much as us!!!! When we arrived in Chau Doc we were befriended by a tout would was trying to make us use him to organise our border crossing! After he showed us the hotels and helped us change money we decided to give him the benefit of the doubt though he was offended that I checked up on him with some locals. We had decided not to take the usual mekong river border crossing to Phom Penh but the new border crossing south that would allow us to go to the southern beaches first. Our man was a little hurt that I had checked up on him so he invited us round to his for dinner for free. (either really nice of him or a sign that he was making a lot of money out of us!) Our meal, accompanied by more Boney M, was delicious! Was great to finally see real vietnamese life!
