We got the bus from Luang pabang at 9.30 this morning. The idea was to take the cheapy bus but when we learnt it cost 1 pound more and we would have to wait for another 2 hours we got the swanky bus. Pretty twisty jouney through some amazing scenery! We arrived in Vientiane at about 6 and set about finding a backpackers. Not the most lovely room in the world but adequate. We decided that Curry was the way forward. Something that might continue (Thursday Curry night!)
We got up the next day and decided that we would do the capital on foot. We thought we might have our day cut out for us but slowly realised there wasn't much to do. We wondered round the morning market which resembled a sort of market situated on a tip! We then went to the arc de triomphe equivilant. interesting to see Cows walking freely round the streets!!!
We ambled up to the National symbol which although beautiful from a distance was a little run down. After lunch in a garage on the side of a main road (surprisingly nice) we hit the National museum. Surprisingly informative and helped set us up for the trips north to see the effects of the secret war of the US Imperialists! Caroline found a pool and took a swim and I settled with a book, beer, camera and beautiful sunset on the Mekong!! Think you've seen a picture. After a swim and major sunburn (in 20 mins) we headed north to Vang Viang for some tubing! More thumbnails ...
