Having finally grown tired of Cahuita, as the weather was pretty poor for the last three days, we have moved on to Puerto Viejo a bit further along the coast. Our final days in Cahuita were lazy and uneventful, mainly spent lounging around on the beach or in a hammock at the hostel. It was very relaxing, except for Rachael when a bird decided to give her a bit of Costa Rican good luck by shitting on her! It was an excellent choice of target and shot.
Whilst the rest of us found other animal companions; I tamed a baby lizard that ran across our table whilst we were eating at a restaurant, me and Oli caught a massive crab (pictures to follow) and Oli and Ellie have encountered an angry monkey and a racoon during walks in the national park. Rachael stuck with the winged-variety however, allowing a free-for-all for the local mosquitos on her legs. She literally has more bites than hairs and claims that she has 97 on one leg - although this may be an exaggeration as she needs something interesting for her currently very poor blog!
In the evening we had further nights out at Cocoīs - the only lively venue in Cahuita, where we got to know a few of the locals. One guy in particular has taken a liking to Natasha, having approached her on the beach to offer her a massage! If taking a liking to Natasha hasnīt proved him crazy enough, his tears at being unable to speak to her on her final night and turning up at the bus station when we departed did the trick! The bus ride to Puerto Viejo was easy and simple enough, costing 50p for the 20 minute ride.
Upon arrival in Puerto Viejo we went in search of the beach but only managed to find a tiny bit of dirty sand that seemed to be the local humping-ground for stray dogs! Whilst me, Rachael and Ellie headed for a bar Natasha and Oli went in search of a nice beach that we headed to the next day. This beach was further away than we have been used to (maybe 2 miles rather than 200m!) but after trecking through some forest we were able to sunbathe for a bit and swim in a sea which had the biggest, strongest waves I have ever experienced.
In the evening we had a nice meal before walking up to a good hostel called Rockin Jīs where people sleep in hammocks. For some unknown reason Rachaelīs aggressive side reared itīs ugly head and, jealous of my bottle of ice-cold Imperial, she for decided to inexplicably smash it out of my hand with her flip-flop (this is how I remember events). When the barman presented me with a broom but no pan to sweep up Rachaelīs mess we made a hasty exit! The bar where we finished the night was called Stamfordīs where we took in some rubbish music and the lasers that gave the club a European club feel. To pass some time we had a brief game of dares to the astonishment/amusement of the locals.
Om Saturday, Oli and Natasha went for a bike ride to the next town along from Puerto Viejo but as Natashaīs bike broke on the way back the long bike ride turned into an even longer walk! Me, Rachael and Ellie spent the day searching for bracelets on the market that would give us the traveller vibe and after some successful bartering we are now looking like true travellers/tramps! The evening was spent listening to a good band in a bar before heading to bed ready for our exit from Puerto Viejo the following morning.

My sand iguana
We have found our hostel and have a five-bed cabin and are readapting to communal toilets and showers (not nice!).Upon arrival in Puerto Viejo we went in search of the beach but only managed to find a tiny bit of dirty sand that seemed to be the local humping-ground for stray dogs! Lies!
Jamie threw Rachaels shoe in the bin, a chase ensued during which rachael tried to slap Jamie with the said shoe as punishment, Jamie screamed like a girl and dropped the bottle in fright. He then dutifully swept up the broken glas like a good boy.
