I have spent the last few days trying to avoid the sun at all costs, which, being by a beach, somewhat restricted what I could do. I have been nursing my wounds with aloe vera but still they are still a bit sore. My time has been spent mostly reading a few books and enjoying watching the surfers. I've spent so long here that I can recognise a lot of the regulars. I would have loved to get out there and enjoy the surf but at the moment I have trouble putting on a t-shirt without intense discomfort. In the meantime I have read Lord of the Rings in its entirety and have started on another book. It really is amazing how much you can read when you have all day to do it. I have also scouted out the restaurant that serves the best curry on the beach. I'm now a massive fan on Sri Lankan cuisine. I've also made friends with some locals stray dogs. I found two yellow labradors which remind me of my two back home. After five relaxing days in Mirissa I decided it was time to move to a new beach.

I had another train journey, which I now feel an expert on, that took me to Galle. One quick tuk-tuk ride later and I arrived in Unawatuna, apparently the best beach on the island. My first impressions are very good and my guesthouse, which is probably the nicest place I've stayed in and also one of the cheapest, is about a minutes walk from the beach. It does feel very touristy though as I've seen plenty of large, tanned Europeans taking up all the sun loungers. I'm hoping this won't have too much of an impact on the prices of the nearby restaurants.

This past week has been very much a relax and do nothing holiday. Some people may find it a bit boring but I'm having a great time. I'm making the most of my time by the beaches. I'm planning on doing more activities when I get to India.
