We have arrived safely in the gorgeous sunny city of Madrid only to find that our "hostel" is in fact a 3 star hotel! Lovely stuff!
After initial good flight and the twist of fate as both rucksacks arrived too, we started with problems. By 3 pm we had found the metro only to go in the opposite direction twice followed by hopping off the one that would take us directly to the hostel!! (Hunger may have had an influence...................Heather had now not eaten for 7 hours!!)
We have now settled in and found the metro simple and have negotiated our way round the city
The Guidebook fiasco!!
.Today we visited Opera, starting at the Teatro Real, which is the opera house opposite the Royal Palace. Next was a visit to the Palace, one word.........Breathtaking!!
After was a trip to the gorgeous Parque Del Buen Retiro which puts Clapham Common (Darren) to shame with itīs scenery and Flora!
Another mishap was when writing this, the photoīs didnīt upload and so we left rather disgruntled. Upon arriving back at the hostel Heather discovered that she had taken a memory card reader from the internet cafe! (What kind of daughter have you raised Dave and Margaret???)
Have loads of pictures but Madrid doesnīt have the technology to upload them so will have to wait for Barcelona. They are worth the wait!!
Anyway best go enjoy some more of this Latino weather

Glad to hear you arrived ok - Heather I hope that you returned the memory reader to the internet cafe - I would make the most of the 'hostel' as the next stop might not be as good. Whilst in Barcalona make sure that you go and see the sacra madra - the church built by Goudie. Lx
Interesting Start to the trip
Hey sounds like a fun but interesting start to the trip :-) Can't believe there is anything that competes with Clapham Common............. well Ok then.
I don't know if you got the robbing genes from Mum or Dad to be honest!!
Yeah when in Barca you have to see the Nou Camp, yes yes Heather I know its more a Boy's thing but amazing to see. Also the las ramblas and then the Gothic Sq are amazing as well, and if you go on a nightout down by the Harbour front has some cool places to have a drink.
